This page serves to provide an experimental probabilistic 7-day forecast for the New York City area. Currently, forecasts are only provided for NYC and the immediate suburbs, and will be gradually extended over the next few days.

Thursday, January 5:

Deterministic: 90% confidence
Mostly Cloudy. High 34. Wind W at 10-20 mph.

In the event of a bust:
60% of higher temperatures than forecast (34-37 degrees)
40% of lower temperatures than forecast (32-34 degrees)

Thursday Night, January 5:

Deterministic: 60% confidence
Light snow, mainly after 10pm. Low 28. Wind W becoming N at 5-10 mph.
Snow: Near 1 inch

In the event of a bust:
55% of higher snowfall than forecast (1-2 inches)
–> 20% of much higher snowfall than forecast (2-2.5 inches)
45% of lower snowfall than forecast (0.5-1 inch)
–> 10% of much lower snowfall than forecast (0-0.5 inch)

Friday, January 6:

Deterministic: 85% confidence
Light snow before 8am, then clearing skies. High 34. Wind N at 10-15 mph.

In the event of a bust:
80% of snow ending earlier than forecast (6-7am)

Saturday, January 7:

Deterministic: 50% confidence
Cloudy with light snow possible in the afternoon. High 27. Wind N at 10-20 mph.
Snow: Up to 1 inch

In the event of a bust:
60% of higher snowfall than forecast (1-2 inches) & lower temperatures (25-27 degrees)
–> 25% of much higher snowfall than forecast (2-4 inches)
40% of lower snowfall than forecast (0-1 inches)

Sunday, January 8:

Deterministic: 80% confidence
Mostly cloudy. High 27. Wind NW at 15-25 mph.

In the event of a bust:
55% of lower temperatures than forecast (25-27 degrees)
45% of higher temperatures than forecast (27-29 degrees)

Monday, January 9:

Deterministic: 70% confidence
Increasing clouds. High 29. Wind SW at 10-20 mph.

In the event of a bust:
55% of higher temperatures than forecast (29-31 degrees)
45% of lower temperatures than forecast (27-29 degrees)

Tuesday, January 10:

Deterministic: 50% confidence
Increasing clouds. High 36. Wind S at 5-10 mph.

In the event of a bust:
– Reasonable temperature range from 34 to 40.
– Light precipitation (either snow or a wintry mix) may develop in the afternoon before changing to rain overnight.

Wednesday, January 11:

Deterministic: 55% confidence
Occasional rain. High 45. Wind SW at 10-20 mph.

In the event of a bust:
– Reasonable temperature range from 40 to 50.
– Timing and intensity of precipitation are still highly uncertain, albeit with moderate-high confidence of rain.

      Thank you for the notice. I am aware of these issues with mobile devices, and have been working on a mobile-friendly version of the forecast. It should be completed before January 31st; in the meantime, selecting “View Full Site” should properly display the forecast.

    The ONLY weather service that gives cumulative highs, lows and predicted precipation for 8 days as well as informative summaries of forecasts by day/night–and without all of the video/pop culture/ads that slow down the page viewing! Congratulations!
