Storm updates will be posted below on the line of rain and thunderstorms currently affecting the region. Radar images are from the Pennsylvania State University e-Wall. Updates will be split into three regions:
Zone 1 – Northwest-north central NJ, Orange county in NY
Zone 2 – Rest of NE NJ and SE NY, NYC
Zone 3 – Long Island, southern CT
3:50 PM Storm Updates
Zone 1 – Scattered light-moderate rain squalls will continue through about 4:30pm with isolated showers through 6pm.
Zone 2 – Moderate rain over Westchester county will continue to progress NE. Otherwise, scattered light-moderate rain squalls will continue through 4:30pm with isolated showers through 6pm.
Zone 3 – Strong T-storm currently over Bayport, NY to continue NNE to cover most of central-eastern Suffolk county. Heavy rain, strong wind gusts over 40 mph, hail and thunder are possible with this storm.
Moderate rain and occasional thunder will continue to spread into the rest of southern CT over the next 1/2 hour.
3:25 PM Storm Updates
As of 3:20pm, the warm front is positioned over NYC into the Long Island Sound. Temperatures to the south are near 50-55 degrees, and to the north are still in the upper 30s-low 40s.
Zone 1 – Scattered light-moderate rain squalls will continue over the next 1-2 hours behind the cold front passage before gradually winding down.
Zone 2 – An area of moderate rain over NE NJ & NYC will continue NE into Fairfield/New Haven counties by 3:40 to 4pm. Gusty winds over 20 mph and isolated thunder are possible.
Zone 3 – A moderate shower is developing near Danbury, CT, to affect the northern half of Fairfield county over the next 20 minutes with locally heavy rain and gusty winds.
Rain will overspread most of Long Island through 3:40 to 4pm. Strong storms south of NYC will continue NE, are likely to slightly weaken prior to reaching central-eastern Suffolk county by about 4pm.
2:50 PM Storm Updates
As of 2:50pm, the warm front is just south/east of NYC. Temps to the N&W remain near 36-40 degrees, Long Island mostly in the mid 40s-low 50s.
Zone 1 – Moderate shower over Morris county to track NNE into W Passaic, E Orange counties through 3:20pm. Wind gusts over 20 mph are possible.
Zone 2 – Moderate T-storm over Somerset county to track NNE into the NE NJ corridor & NYC between 3:05pm and 3:30pm. Moderate rain, isolated thunder and wind gusts over 25-30 mph are possible.
Zone 3 – An area of storms over central NJ is expected to reach Nassau/W Suffolk counties between 3:30pm and 4pm.
2:10 PM Storm Updates
As of 2pm, the warm front is positioned near Philadelphia to Long Branch, NJ, south of where temperatures are in the low-mid 60s. North of the warm front, temperatures remain in the upper 30s-mid 40s. The warm front is just south of Long Island, with Westhampton Beach, NY near 51 degrees.
Zone 1 – Moderate shower is near Sussex, NJ tracking NNE, to reach Orange county by 2:20pm. Shower capable of producing moderate-locally heavy rain and gusty winds.
Heavy T-storm entering Hunterdon county, to reach Morris and Passaic counties by 2:30-2:40pm. Storm capable of strong wind gusts over 40 mph and isolated thunder.
Zone 2 – No storm is currently imminent. Rain is expected to begin around 3-3:30pm.
Zone 3 – No storm is currently imminent. Rain is expected to begin around 4-5pm.
