1:40 PM: Storms Approaching Area

radar2Over the last 2 hours, a heavy thunderstorms has been stalled over northern Queens, producing localized flash flooding with totals as high as 1-2 inches based on radar estimates. The latest observations show the storm is weakening, which will continue over the next 1/2 hour.

Meanwhile, an area of moderate to heavy thunderstorms is expanding in western and central NJ, moving northeast towards the area. These storms are expected to begin affecting the immediate NYC area and Long Island between 2-4 PM, continuing for a few hours before ending from west to east. Severe weather is not anticipated, with heavy rain and localized strong wind gusts the main risks with today’s storms.
