The summer of 2013 got off to a warmer than average start with June and especially July, with a major heat wave in the July 14-20 time period, but otherwise the summer was not as hot as the 2010-2012 summers, which were among the warmest on record in NYC. August 2013 started out moderately cooler than average across the region, and although warm and humid conditions towards the end of the month moderated the cool departures, the month still ended up 0.6 degree colder than average, making it the coolest August since 2008, which was at least -1 to -2 degrees cooler than average.
