Below are the area observed conditions for Monday, July 29 and Tuesday, July 30. The next full forecast discussion, as well as storm updates, will be posted on Thursday afternoon and evening.
Monday, July 29 Observations:
A cold front moved through the area early in the day after having produced widespread heavy thunderstorms and localized flash flooding west of NYC on Sunday. As a result, more sunshine and drier conditions were observed, as well as warmer temperatures, with highs reaching the low to mid 80s across the area. The highest temperature recorded was 89 degrees in LaGuardia airport.
Tuesday, July 30 Observations:
As an abnormally strong upper level low tracked north into Canada, a weakening cool air mass slowly reached the area; while temperatures were not as cool as the Midwest, where fall-like conditions were observed, lows fell into the 50s away from the immediate NYC area and the coast, as low as 53 degrees in Sussex, NJ, with highs warming up into the upper 70s in the interior areas and low-mid 80s for the rest of the area. The highest temperature recorded was 85 degrees in JFK airport.
